Thats right, Mr. Tyler Hansbrough himself -- and his jersey will be retired at half-time. No one else will wear #50 at Carolina... and thanks to Monica, Steph and Sherry...I've got a #50 jersey of my own!
Here is an excerpt from Tar Heels Today:
"In addition to being a very important week for the 2009-10 Tar Heel basketball team, this week will also be an historic one. On Wednesday, Tyler Hansbrough will be in Chapel Hill for the first time since the NBA season began. As part of a halftime ceremony, his famous number-50 jersey will be retired. It will mark the first Smith Center jersey retirement since Antawn Jamison following the 1998 season."
The article also went on to explain how on Saturday, Ellington and Ty Lawson's jerseys will be honored before the State game.
"Ellington’s jersey is being retired as part of new criteria that include selection as Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Because of that change, the number-21 jersey of Donald Williams will also be honored. (Williams ceremony will be before the Miami game) Before this week, the last time jerseys were honored was a triple ceremony for Sean May, Rashad McCants and Raymond Felton following the 2005 national championship year. The 1957 (Rosenbluth, Brennan, Kearns), 1982 (Perkins, Worthy, Jordan), 2005 and 2009 national title teams all have three members in the rafters. Once Williams is added, the 1993 team will also have a trifecta, as the Final Four Most Outstanding Player will join George Lynch and Eric Montross. The 1993 and 2005 teams will be the only two Tar Heel title teams without at least one"
Lets hope we can pull out a win against Dook!!! GO HEELS!!!
