Duke hates us.
NC State hates us.
We hate Duke .... annnnnnnd we hate NC State.
In light of the upcoming game this weekend.... NC State's band showed up on Chapel Hill's campus last night to play their fight song ... naturally ... Twitter and Facebook exploded kicking off the taunting, banter and snide comments from both sides of the rivalry ... Tweets like this:
Kudos to the NC State trumpeteers who drove over to Chapel Hill to play their fight song. Improvement from last year's cow parade. #RipBessy
Keep on playing your little horns, wolfies. Some of us actually have studying to do. #UNC #goheels #BeatState
UNC's band might do the same thing at State's campus if, ya know, we had State's homework load on a Wednesday night. #BeatState
UNC's band has tried to march on NC State the last 2 years but couldnt get further than -4 yards on off campus. #GoPack
or NOT rivlary depending on who you are talking to. Some people think it depends on the sport, some people are die-hard against a team no matter what, some people claim its both.
Yes, we are rivals with Duke ... and yes, we lost the Victory Bell last weekend in that heartbreaking loss ... however; I also believe that in the gem of a conference we call the ACC AND in the great state of North Carolina ... we have this wierd triangle of rivalries --of who hates who the most -- and so yes, I admit... while I would rather beat Duke more...and they are the key word in our fight song ... I also never want to to lose to State.
Especially after 5 years of losing to them ... I.Want.To.Beat.State!
Check out the preview of this weekends matchup from CBSSports.com:
Watchability: The Wolfpack have won five straight against the Tar Heels, who are coming off a tough loss to Duke. Emotions should be dialed up on both sides as well as in the stands.
You going? Ranking the road trip: This is the game both teams have circled on the calendar every season. NC State's band took a trip to Chapel Hill on Wednesday night to play the Wolfpack fight song on the UNC campus. Expect the taunting between these two rival fan bases to be at a fever pitch by Saturday.
Magic number for North Carolina: 30.4. That's the difference between the Tar Heels' margin of victory this year (33.4) and their margin of defeat (3.0).
Magic number for NC State: 6. A win over the Tar Heels will be the sixth straight for NC State coach Tom O'Brien. That would be the longest Wolfpack winning streak in the 102-game history of the series. It would also tie O'Brien for second-most wins over Carolina by a NC State coach.
The game comes down to: Emotion. Early-game jitters are common in a rivalry game like this. The team that's better able to keep its emotions in check and execute will likely take an early lead.
It's going to be a great game. Great fall weather, Kenan Stadium...hopefully a Carolina Victory! I'm in!
GO HEELS!!!! BEAT STATE!!!!!
